Under 17’s back on top

A  4-1 win over Barwon Blue saw the U/17’s return to the top of the ladder approaching the mid-way point of the season.

After a slow start with the back four under a bit of pressure from barwon blue, Geelong broke the deadlock after 20 minutes, when prolific striker Alberto Lopez opened his account with a cheeky chip over the keeper from 30 yards. A minute later skipper Dylan Stojanovski  made it 2-0 with an even more audacious chip from just outside the area. And the third came in as many minutes when Stefan Luong latched onto a lovely through ball from Shiva Kanapathy to round the keeper and finish sweetly.

The restart saw a string of poor refereeing decisions go against Geelong and Barwon maintain their pressure on defenders Daniel Gray, Michael Illioski and Anthony Nguyen despite being down 3-0. In a messy goal-mouth scramble Barwon pegged one back in what looked like a foul on keeper Rhett Joy. The Geelong boys sealed the win after Alberto Lopez secured a brace with a tidy finish. The win sees the undefeated Geelong return to the top of the table after last weeks bye and in good form approaching next weeks top of the table clash against the also undefeated Lara at Stead Park.
