U17 Boys share points with Lara
Tuesday, 22 June 2010 16:51
Still on top of the U/17’s ladder only by goal difference, Geelong and Lara remain undefeated after battling out a tough 1-1 draw. Right from the kick off Lara’s size and pace swamped Geelong. Much to the dismay of the Stead Park faithful, Lara’s forward, with a solo run from just inside their half beat two tackles to finish strongly past keeper Rhett Joy inside 10 minutes. The Geelong team battled fruitlessly in spite of an unprecedented amount of stoppages with Lara’s coach making more than 20 interchanges to half time.
With Geelong’s coach Rob Hodkinson away on holiday, it was up to his assistant Dean and man of the match Billy Fanraatree to rev up a flat looking Geelong side. The second half began with Geelong controlling the possession and was after 7 minutes and a couple more Lara changes that captain Dylan Stojanovski’s call to put stalwart Jordan Rendevski up front paid off. With a powerful volley from just inside the box, Jordan and the boys celebrated the equalizer . Now in top gear, both sides squandered several opportunities to break the deadlock with both Alberto Lopez and Jimmy Vo shooting wide, and Lara’s ever fresh legs no match for the resilience of Michael Ilioski, Danny Gray and Michael Dojcinovski. Lara finished the Stead Park match with no fewer than 47 interchanges. Next week’s see the half way mark of the season with our boys away to Surf Coast at Quay reserve.
