3rds Unlucky 2 Draw @ Breakwater

On Sunday, our GRFA Mens Team secured a valuable 1:1 draw, consolidating their place in the Top4.

The match began with Breakwater on the offensive. GeelongSC keeper, Zivko, was forced early to make a spledid diving save, low to his left pushing the ball around for a corner kick. Breakwater's other attacks were well repelled thanks to strong defensive effort from Koore, Efto, Stefce, and Steve Gaitanis. Koore was particulary oustanding, his superior sharpness and strength helped to win every ball that came his way.
As the match moved deeper into the half GeelongSC began to get a better handle on the game. Costa and Becker got a better hold of the midfield, controlling ball possession on a difficult bumpy pitch. Costa, James, Becker & Branne all had good scoring opportunities but the half finished goalless.

The second half was all about GeelongSC, Miki and Costa were a constant menace up forward. Miki got himself into a couple one-on-one situations with Breakwater's keeper but he wasn't able to finish. Georgi scored the breakthrough goal with some individual brillance. Georgi recieved a pass in midfield then moved forward to the sixteen yard box, dribbling and limping past three defenders, before curling his shot high into the roof of the Breakwater goal.
Late in match, a defensive lapse saw Breakwater equalise with their only genuine attack for the half.

GeelongSC pressed hard searching for a winning goal but it didn't come. Costa had a strong claim for a penalty turned down and James come closest to scoring when his shot came back off the inside of the post. So the match finished a 1:1 draw, a big let-off for Breakwater. Still it was a strong, and spirited performance by the GeelongSC boys.. Well done!!

Next week the 3rd's play North Geelong @ home @ 3:00pm.
