Reserves Overcome Westgate

Comeback Win for Reserves:
Coach Steve Gaitanis rolled out the big cannons for this encounter against Westgate. Paul Petreski and Zoki Ristevski returned from their recent oversees stints. Whilst it is unclear where each player’s eventual European destinations might be, it has been rumoured that Jose Mourinho was particularly impressed with Zoki and is prepared to off load some big names such as Kaka and Benzema so he can enter a bidding war with Zoki’s preferred destination, FC Barcelona!
Westgate was not fazed by the magnificent lights or the buzz around the ground and went ahead after only two minutes. The Geelong boys were stunned and looked lacking in composure afterwards. Parity was restored when an excellent long range cross from James Kociski was chested down by Paul Edebohls who raced into the box and slotted the ball past the advancing keeper. It seemed that this would be the catalyst for Geelong to start playing the ball around and really dominate Westgate. However, it was not long before Westgate hit the lead again, this time in controversial circumstances. Nick Ilieveski seemed to be illegally impeded whilst attempting to head clear a cross. In the following scramble the ball found its way over the goal line and into the net.
Josh Talev was having a very good game on the left side of midfield. How easy is it to forget that the boy is only 14 years of age!
A half time “spray” and call for greater concentration from Gaitanis was answered with two more goals from Geelong. Paul Edebohls broke clear and finished with a classy chip over the keeper’s head. Now with their tails ups, Geelong went looking for the winner with a series of threatening attacks. In one such move the referee spotted a hand ball in the box and a penalty was given. Zoki Ristevski stepped up to the plate and made no mistake. The points were secured.
It was great to see Paul Edebohls get on the score sheet again. The after-effects of a very heavy challenge at Sunbury last week ruled out Michael Temelkovski, so Paul was playing as a striker. Next week, two boys under 19 years of age and in good goal scoring form, playing up front might be a very appealing prospect for the coach and the club.
