U17 Boys End season with a win

After last week’s heartbreaking 5-3 loss to Lara in the penultimate round the u/17’s saw out the season with a comprehensive 4-2 victory over Surfcoast with Alberto scoring yet another hat-trick bringing his tally to 5 securing him the golden boot for 2010.

Goal sneak Tuan Nguyen opened the account in the first minute after he capped off an impressive move with a stylish finish. The prolific Lopez netted his first not long after as he went on one of his trade mark long runs down the right wing to slot it past the keeper for 2-0.  Though Surfcoast dominated the first 20 minutes of the half, making Geelong work all over the pitch with some great passing and keeping possession, the next 20 minutes would Geelong take control and dominate possession with all the usual suspects left lamenting missed opportunities. Yet again against the flow of play Surfcoast scored their first after their keeper’s massive wind assisted kick bounced over the Geelong defence and was put away past a floundering Rhett Joy with merely seconds left in the half.

After the restart Geelong maintained their dominance against the wind exchanging numerous passes. It wasn’t until the mid-way point of the half that Lopez got his second which was a carbon copy of the first goal. But a well drilled Surfcoast refused to lay down getting one back on the break to make it 3-2 with 10 minutes to go but Surfcoast’s fate was sealed not long after when Lopez tapped in a perfectly weighted through ball from Stefan Luong. The win saw Geelong finish second 5 points behind Lara  after the leagues decision not to play the dead rubber catch up game with Barwon Blue.

Next week sees our boys play Rangers in the semi-final in what is tipped by many to be a thriller.
