GeelongSC 3-1 Melbourne Uni

Sunday, 06 June 2010 09:26

Troy Hardy marked his return from injury with 2 goals and an assist.

In heavy fog Geelong opened its account through Hardy who headed home a Matios Gorosito cross. Hardy doubled his tally in simular circumstances. Gorosito again broke free on the left flank and squared the ball to Hardy who turned the ball into the net.

Melbourne Uni managed to pull one back after the break.

Hardy played his part in Geelongs 3rd when he got onto a Steven Nikolovski free kick at the back post, looping it back across the face of goal for James Aguis to finish with his head.

VSF Mens Result: GeelongSC 1- 2 Maribyrnong Greens

Tuesday, 01 June 2010 16:11

Geelong suffered two first half goals to bottom placed Maribyrnong Greens

The second half saw Geelong denied a goal when Ante Cicak managed to get the ball into the area only to be caught on the end of a late challenge from a Greens defender that resulted in a red card, but to Geelongs dismay the ball had been put in the net, yet the goal was denied as the referee opted to deal with the serious nature of the foul on Cicak rather then play an advantage.

Shortly after Cicak received a red card for leaving the playing feild.

Geelong pulled one back through James Agius but it was all in vein as the Greens managed to hang on despite the numerous opportunities Geelong carved out.

Past VSF Mens Reserves Results

Tuesday, 01 June 2010 11:48

Keilor Park 1 Geelong 4

The Reserves showed what they are truly capable of against second placed Keilor.  All players were set the target of giving at least 25% more effort than they did in last week’s disappointing game against La Trobe Uni and they responded magnificently.

Tight at the back, bubbly in midfield and clinical up front, it would have been hard to convince the onlooker that Keilor were 8 places higher than us on the ladder.  Halfway through the first half Nick Bosevski showed his experience spotting Michael Temelkovski with a perfect through ball.  The young striker confidently headed the ball over the advancing keeper into an empty net.  10 minutes later a Peter Stojanovski free kick was met by Michael Temelkovski, again looping the ball over the keeper and into the net.  2-0 at half time to the good guys!

Keilor came out strongly in the second half but Geelong held out manfully, with Daniel Psimaris in defence having his best game for the year.  Keilor did pull one back and at 2-1 it looked worrying for Geelong. However, as the Seniors were doing their warm up, they witnessed a curling low shot from Aco Stanisisc sneak in past the keepr’s left hand post.  A fine run and left foot shot from Alberto Lopez completed the scoring.

This was a fantastic way to restore some self-belief into our Reserves. Well done lads!

Geelong 1 Maribyrnong Greens 1

On the balance of play, this was two probably 2 points lost rather than one point gained.  The first half started brightly with the defence marshalled well by Steve Gaitanis and Daniel Psimaris.  Player/coach Peter Stojanovski kept things ticking over in mid-field and good chances were being created. Alex Iloiski and Nick Boseveski had excellent headed opportunities to open the scoring and Michael Temelkovski saw a powerful shot thunder off the crossbar with the keeper beaten.  Somehow, the score was 0-0 at half time.

Coach Stojanovski warned his players that games like this are often lost if chances don’t get converted to goals.

The second half was much the same as the first.  Geelong eventually got one into the net from a set piece.  A tantalising free kick was met with a curling header from substitute Paul Edebohls.  Scoring goals is nothing new for Paul and hopefully he can now string together a good run of form.

It was a set piece that produced Maribyrniong’s equaliser after a goalmouth scramble following a free kick.

Open Women lose 0-1 to Barwon

Sunday, 30 May 2010 22:43

The talented Barwon  encounted  some very stiff opposition against Geelong in a fast and emotional match that pitted former teammates against one another. A perfectly placed set shot on goal was enough for Barwon to take the points. Confussion was rife as both teams struggled to cope with the referee being slow in his judgement. Tireless efforts by Steph,  and Danni brought other players into the game in  the caliber of Kate and Maddie that created an attacking defence that fed the ball to Niko and Sumyera . While Emily in goal showed that she was prepared to stand her ground.

U16 Girls lose 1-2

Sunday, 30 May 2010 22:41

A late second half goal by Surfside denied Geelong of coming away with a point. The evenly contested game has proved to all clubs that the young and inexperienced Geelong is no pushover. Even though losing 1-2 Geelong was able to match it with Surfside. A return to form by Emily Jov in goals after breaking her leg last year denied Surfside a few scoring opportunities. Her long through ball sent Milly on her way to goal but only to have her shot saved by the keeper, yet  Antonia was there to accept the rebound  and score her first goal in her career. The young brigade of Ruby, Cody and Antonia were among the thick of things all day. Keep it up girls.
